The White Countess

In 1930s Shanghai, Countess Sofia Belinskya (Natasha Richardson), a fallen member of the exiled Russian aristocracy, becomes the centerpiece of a nightclub created by blind American diplomat Todd Jackson (Ralph Fiennes). The club, "The White Countess," caters to rich cosmopolites and invites Sofia to be its hostess. As the nightclub thrives, Todd and Sofia draw closer, but their work and personal lives become increasingly entangled amidst the turmoil of war, including the Second Sino-Japanese War that looms over Shanghai.
