Spirits of the Dead

"Spirits of the Dead" is a haunting anthology film that delves into the dark side of human nature through three eerie tales by Edgar Allan Poe. The French-Italian co-production features Roger Vadim's segment Metzengerstein, where a debauched Countess Frédérique de Metzengerstein tries to tame a wild horse; Louis Malle's entry William Wilson, where an army officer is haunted by his doppelgänger; and Federico Fellini's short Toby Dammit, which follows an alcoholic actor whose trip to Rome for a Spaghetti Western is complicated by encounters with the Devil.
