Idlewild

In 1935, in the town of Idlewild in Georgia, Percival works at his father's funeral home and at night plays piano at a local club called Church, where his childhood friend Rooster is a singer who is also bootlegging on the side. When gangsters threaten the club, Rooster and another woman, Rose, retreat to a nearby warehouse, where they are ambushed. Rooster's friend Percival then offers his help, and together they perform a song that makes their friend Sally an overnight star. As Sally becomes a sensation, she asks Percival to leave with her, but he feels obligated to his father. Meanwhile, Rooster is forced to deal with the gangsters' demands, which lead to violence and tragedy. The film features musical numbers performed by OutKast and other artists, blending hip-hop, funk, and soul stylings with period dances. Rooster devises a plan to buy liquor from bootleggers, but it goes awry, leading to further conflict with the gangsters. In the end, Percival saves Rooster from the leader of the gangsters, Trumpy, and finds his own path in life after his friend's death.
