Escape to Athena

In 1944, Allied prisoners at a German-occupied Greek island are forced to excavate ancient artefacts, keeping valuable pieces for themselves while sending others to their deaths. As resistance leader Zeno orchestrates an escape plan, he teams up with the camp's commandant, Major Otto Hecht (Roger Moore), who initially wants nothing to do with the war effort. The group discovers a heavily armed garrison atop Mount Athena, and after a daring rescue, they manage to liberate the town and capture a U-boat refuelling depot. With the war nearing its end, Charlie Dane (Elliott Gould) and Dottie Del Mar (Stefanie Powers), an American USO artist, find themselves caught up in Zeno's plan to steal Byzantine treasures from the monastery atop Mount Athena.
