Whitney Houston's rise to fame is portrayed in this biographical film, directed by Angela Bassett. The movie explores her tumultuous relationship with R&B artist Bobby Brown (Arlen Escarpeta), which began after they met at a Soul Train Awards ceremony and later led to a courtship, marriage, and the birth of their daughter Bobbi Kristina. Yaya DaCosta stars as Houston in the film, set between 1989 and 1994, during which Houston's fame soared with the success of her third album I'm Your Baby Tonight and the film debut The Bodyguard.
