Sanders of the River

In 1930s Nigeria, British District Commissioner R.G. Sanders rules his area strictly yet justly, struggling to combat gun-runners and slavers alongside a loyal native chief named Bosambo. With the aid of Bosambo, Sanders navigates treacherous tribal politics and ultimately restores peace to his province after a false rumor spreads that he has died. Through its exploration of colonialism and African culture, Sanders of the River became a significant commercial and critical success, earning Zoltán Korda four nominations for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival.
