Rosie Ming (Elliot Page), a young Canadian poet with Chinese and Persian parents, travels to Iran to perform at a poetry festival after her grandmother's death reveals her Iranian heritage through letters from her father, Mehran, whom Rosie had believed abandoned her family. At the festival, she meets Mehrnaz, a cultural ambassador who supports her, and Di Di, a Chinese poet who teaches her about her own Persian roots. As Rosie navigates her newfound identity, she reconciles with poets Dietmar and Di Di through an improvisational slam and discovers more about her father's life and legacy.
