The Day of the Siege: September Eleven 1683

In 1683, the Ottoman Empire's warriors begin the siege of Vienna. The Sept 11 is the day of the main battle between Polish cavalry under King Jan III Sobieski and Turks. Marco d'Aviano (F. Murray Abraham), a Catholic monk known for his ability to perform miracles, stops an angry mob from killing one of his friends, Abu'l (Yorgo Voyagis), who leaves his deaf wife behind to assist the Ottomans. The Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I requests Marco's presence in Vienna for advice, and although initially disregarded, Marco miraculously heals the emperor's daughter's breast cancer, convincing him to listen to Marco's advice about forming alliances with neighboring countries. When the Ottoman army arrives, Kara Mustafa Pasha (Enrico Lo Verso), the Grand Vizier of the Ottomans, leads a massive force into battle, but is ultimately defeated by the Polish troops led by King Jan III Sobieski.
