In "The Doctor," a 1991 American drama film, William Hurt stars as Jack McKee, a successful surgeon whose life is turned upside down when he's diagnosed with throat cancer. As he navigates the medical establishment from a patient's perspective, McKee undergoes a transformation, gaining a deeper understanding of the emotional void that hospitals and some doctors can display. With the guidance of fellow patients like Elizabeth Perkins' June Ellis, who has an inoperable brain tumor, McKee begins to reevaluate his own bedside manner and ultimately becomes an advocate for compassion and sensitivity towards patients.
