The Fantasticks

A romantic comedy musical set in 1920s America, "The Fantasticks" tells the story of Amos and Ben, two widowers who scheme to reunite their children Luisa and Matt through a fabricated feud, with the help of El Gallo, a traveling carnival showman. As the young lovers fall for each other, they are taken under El Gallo's care, only to discover the harsh realities of the world through his troupe's eyes, forcing them to mature beyond their innocent romanticism. The film was adapted from the record-breaking stage production, which ran for 17,162 performances, and features a full orchestra performance of its hit songs in a lavish, labored effort to revive the old-fashioned movie musical.
