Cousins

The film "Cousins" tells the story of three cousins, Mata, Missy, and Makareta, who are connected by blood but separated by circumstances, spending a lifetime searching for each other. At a young age, Mata is sent to the Mercy Home for Desolate Children, where she grows up ignorant of her Māori culture and heritage. Later, after meeting her Aunt Gloria and cousins Missy and Makareta, Mata learns about her Māori background and family history. As adults, Makareta and Missy resolve to find their lost cousin Mata, leading to a chance encounter that ultimately brings them together. The film is an adaptation of Patricia Grace's 1992 novel of the same name and explores themes of identity, culture, and family.
