The Asphyx

In 1875, Sir Hugo Cunningham (Robert Stephens) and his adopted son Giles Cunningham (Robert Powell) discover a possible means to acquire immortality by capturing the spirit of death, known as the "asphyx" or Grim Reaper. The duo constructs an impenetrable vault door on their family tomb, with the aim of trapping their own asphyxes and achieving immortality. However, things take a dark turn when Christina (Jane Lapotaire), Giles's fiancée, is decapitated during an experiment to capture the asphyx. As Cunningham becomes increasingly obsessed with his goal, he begins to sabotage his own equipment, ultimately leading to a tragic confrontation that will change their lives forever.
