Biography

Sir Robert Stephens was a leading English actor in the early years of England's Royal National Theatre, known for his stage work and appearances in over 100 theatrical films and TV series episodes. He was also the father of actors Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, whom he married to actress Maggie Smith between 1967 and 1974. A respected actor of his generation, Stephens died at 64 due to complications from surgery in 1995, eleven months after being knighted.
