"Love on the Ground" (1984) follows two actress friends, Jane Birkin as Emily and Geraldine Chaplin as Charlotte, who are chosen by playwright Clément Roquemaure (Jean-Pierre Kalfon) to appear in his new play, which takes place at a mysterious mansion. As they rehearse, the actresses start experiencing disturbing visions, hinting at a dark past connected to the mansion's magician, Paul. The film's complex blend of reality and theater is cleverly executed by director Jacques Rivette, featuring witty performances from Birkin and Chaplin as they navigate love, mystery, and the blurring of lines between the two.
