The Working Class Goes to Heaven

In "The Working Class Goes to Heaven" (1971), Gian Maria Volonté stars as Lulù Massa, a 31-year-old factory worker who loses a finger in an accident, leading him to join a radical faction among the workers and stage a strike. As he becomes increasingly involved, he has an affair with a female co-worker, Lidia (Mariangela Melato), but is fired for his agitational behavior after the unionists reach an agreement with management. The film follows Lulù's downward spiral into madness as he struggles to find meaning and connection in a world where he feels like just another cog in the machine.
