The Majestic

In 1951, a Hollywood screenwriter suffers amnesia after a car accident and settles down in a small town where he is mistaken for a long-lost son. Jim Carrey plays Peter Appleton, who regains consciousness on the beach with no memory of his past life. As he tries to rebuild his identity, Harry Trimble (Martin Landau), a veteran who believes Peter is his missing son Luke, becomes a key figure in his life. Peter helps renovate a derelict movie theater and eventually uncovers his true identity, but not before facing the dangers of the anti-communist era and the scrutiny of federal agents.
