The Midnight Man

In this neo noir mystery film, Burt Lancaster stars as Jim Slade, an ex-convict and ex-cop who becomes embroiled in a murder investigation at the college where he works as a night watchman. As Slade pursues his own investigation, he must navigate a complex web of suspects and motives, including Senator Phillip Clayborne (Morgan Woodward), his daughter's estranged boyfriend Arthur King (Bill Lancaster), and Quartz Willinger (Cameron Mitchell), Slade's friend and fellow parolee who is eventually arrested by Sheriff Jack Casey (Harris Yulin). With the help of Linda Thorpe (Susan Clark), a parole officer, Slade must clear his own name and uncover the truth behind the murder.
