Nana

In the 1926 silent drama film "Nana," Catherine Hessling stars as Nana, a presumptuous and promiscuous stage actress who becomes infatuated with Count Moffat, played by Werner Krauss. The film is set during the Second Empire in France and explores themes of social climbing and excess, as Nana's lavish lifestyle and numerous affairs leave a trail of ruin in her wake. Based on Émile Zola's 1880 novel, the film features elaborate sets and a grandiose style that was intended to showcase its star, Catherine Hessling, but ultimately proved to be a commercial failure for director Jean Renoir.
