Bedlam

In 18th-century London, wealthy patrons visit St. Mary's of Bethlehem asylum to observe its mentally ill inhabitants, fueling class differences and social prejudice. Nell Bowen (Anna Lee), horrified by the deplorable conditions, seeks aid from Lord Mortimer (Billy House) and Whig politician John Wilkes to reform the asylum, threatening the corrupt practices of Master George Sims (Boris Karloff). The inmates, including Sidney Long (Richard Fraser), rebel against Sims' treatment, leading to a shocking confrontation that changes Nell's relationship with her fellow inmates.
