Dennis Hopper stars as Bickford Waner, a young man from Fort Worth who takes on various jobs in the small Texas town of Dime Box. He's befriended by Reese Ford and his wife Molly, played by Lee Purcell, but before long, Molly seduces him into getting her pregnant. When Bickford's past as notorious train robber Kid Blue is revealed, he gives up on going straight and plots a crime with the arrival of his former girlfriend Janet Conforto.
