In the tumultuous Parisian world of 1960s counterculture, a group of radical Maoist activists navigate the complexities of revolution and identity, testing the boundaries between ideology and individual desire. La Chinoise, Jean-Luc Godard's 1967 film, is a loose adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novel Demons, set against the backdrop of the French New Left movement. The film follows five young friends - each representing a different ideological persuasion and personality type - as they conspire to overthrow the status quo through a campaign of sustained revolutionary violence.
