Distant Thunder

A young man, Mitsuo Wada (Toshiyuki Nagashima), struggles to preserve his livelihood as a tomato farmer in 1980s Japan, amidst the backdrop of modernization and urbanization threatening rural areas. His personal life is further complicated by his strained relationships with his parents, particularly his father who leaves his wife for another woman. Mitsuo also navigates an arranged marriage with Ayako Hanamori (Eri Ishida), which adds to his emotional turmoil, as he tries to keep alive his romance with the eccentric Kaede (Rie Yokoyama).
