A Guy Named Joe

Spencer Tracy stars as Pete Sandidge, a cocky U.S. Army Air Force pilot stationed in England during World War II who falls for a daring female flier, Irene Dunne's Dorinda Durston. After he's killed on a mission, he's sent back to Earth by an angelic General (Lionel Barrymore) with a new assignment: guiding the living, including his old friend and fellow pilot Ted Randall, played by Van Johnson, whom Pete had been watching over since death.
