Biography

Esther Jane Williams was an American competitive swimmer and actress who set regional and national records in her late teens on the Los Angeles Athletic Club swim team. She joined Billy Rose's Aquacade after being unable to compete in the 1940 Summer Olympics, where she swam alongside Olympic gold medal-winner Johnny Weissmuller. Williams made a series of films known as "aquamusicals" and appeared in several high-grossing films annually from 1945 to 1949.
