Christian Clavier plays Jérôme Ozendron, a young and dynamic executive who dreams of writing and escaping his mundane life. He meets Chris, an old friend and play-boy, which sparks his desire to break free from his routine. Jérôme quits his job to devote himself to writing, but nothing goes as planned. He becomes entangled in a series of relationships with Natacha, a call-girl, and Liliane, a marginal woman who persecutes him.
