This Is the Night

In this 1932 pre-Code comedy film, Cary Grant stars as Gerald, a husband driven to desperation by his mistress Claire's (Lili Damita) plans for a romantic Venice getaway with her lover Stephen (Charles Ruggles). To cover their tracks, Gerald invents a fake wife and hires Germaine (Thelma Todd), an out-of-work actress in dire need of 2000 francs. As the three couples embark on their trip to Venice, hilarity ensues as jealousy and misunderstandings reign supreme, leading to a series of comedic misadventures that ultimately lead to romance and redemption.
