Without a Clue

In this 1988 comedy film, Michael Caine plays Sherlock Holmes, while Ben Kingsley stars as Dr. John Watson, who conceives of Holmes as a way to solve crimes incognito without drawing attention to his medical career. A washed-up stage actor, Reginald Kincaid, is hired to play the part of Holmes, but Watson fires him after he oversteps his boundaries. With Kincaid's antics foiled, Watson decides to write Holmes out of his stories and replace him with a new character, "The Crime Doctor", based on himself, leading to a series of comedic misadventures as Watson tries to solve a major theft case while also dealing with the drunken Kincaid and Inspector Lestrade.
