Étienne Dorsay (Jean Rochefort), a happily married man and father, is instantly smitten after spotting Charlotte, a beautiful model, in a red dress at work. His three bumbling friends help him pursue her, including Daniel (Claude Brasseur), who has a secret relationship with another man. As Étienne's obsession grows, he becomes entangled in a series of misadventures that lead to a dramatic confrontation on the ledge outside Charlotte's apartment window.
