Sitting Pretty

Tacey King (Maureen O'Hara) and her husband Harry King (Robert Young), a suburban couple with three sons, need a live-in babysitter for their rambunctious children. When they hire Lynn Belvedere (Clifton Webb), a mysterious man with many skills and experiences, he wins over the boys but intrigues his parents. As rumors of an alleged affair between Tacey and Belvedere spread, Harry's boss Horatio J. Hammond threatens to ruin the family's reputation. Belvedere, however, has been secretly researching and writing a book about the community, which becomes a national bestseller.
