The Girl of the Canal

The film Painted Boats (or The Girl of the Canal) is a British drama about two families living and working on cargo-carrying canal boats during World War II. Jenny Laird stars as Mary Smith, the daughter of Pa Smith (Bill Blewitt), who lives in harmony with her family, while Robert Griffiths plays Ted Stoner, the son of Mrs. Stoner, whose ambition takes him towards mainstream life.
