In 19th-century Spain, a young orphan named Marcelino is abandoned on the steps of a monastery and raised by its monks. Despite their care, Marcelino longs for a mother figure in his life. One day, he befriends an unexpected companion: a beautiful statue of Christ on the Cross that comes to life after being fed bread and wine.
