Sounder

In 1933, the Morgans are an African-American family living as sharecroppers in rural Louisiana, raising sugar cane for their white landlord. When their father, Nathan Lee, is arrested and imprisoned for stealing food to feed his starving family, they must come together to survive. As David Lee searches for his injured dog Sounder and tries to find his father, he discovers the harsh realities of poverty and racism in the Great Depression-era South. Ultimately, the film becomes a powerful exploration of family love, resilience, and hope in the face of overwhelming hardship.
