The Visitor

A lonely college professor, Walter Vale (Richard Jenkins), attends a conference in New York City and finds a young couple, Tarek (Haaz Sleiman) and Zainab (Danai Gurira), living in his apartment. Over the next few days, a friendship develops between Walter and Tarek, who teaches him to play the drum. When Tarek is mistakenly charged with subway turnstile jumping and detained, Walter hires an immigration lawyer to prevent his deportation. Meanwhile, Mouna (Hiam Abbass), Tarek's mother, arrives from Michigan, also in the US illegally, and the two form a bond, leading to a search for meaning and a reevaluation of their lives.
