Pascali's Island

In 1908 on the fictional Ottoman-ruled Greek island of Nisi, a half-British half-Maltese man named Basil Pascali lives a life of quiet desperation as an informant for the Sultan, sending reports that are mysteriously ignored. His world is turned upside down by the arrival of Anthony Bowles, a British archaeologist with unclear intentions, and his growing friendship with Lydia Neumann, an Austrian painter, leads to a complicated web of deceit and betrayal. As Pascali's suspicions about Bowles' true nature grow, he finds himself entangled in a fatal game of cat and mouse, ultimately leading to the tragic downfall of all three characters.
