In 1941, the inhabitants of a small Jewish village in Central Europe organize a fake deportation train to escape the Nazis and flee to Palestine. The film follows the journey of Schlomo (Lionel Abelanski), who runs from town to town warning his fellow villagers about the impending danger, eventually convincing them to build a train that will transport them to safety through rural Eastern Europe. Along the way, tensions rise among the group, they face close encounters with real Nazis and Communist partisans, but ultimately reach the frontlines between German and Soviet fire.
