The Howards of Virginia

In 1755, Matt Howard (Cary Grant), a young surveyor from Virginia, joins the Braddock Expedition against the French in the Ohio Country. After his father's death during the expedition, Matt settles in Ohio and meets Thomas Jefferson (Richard Carlson) and Jane Peyton (Martha Scott). Despite being snubbed by high society, Matt falls in love with Jane and eventually marries her. The couple moves to Virginia, where they build a life together, but their happiness is disrupted when Matt joins the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, leaving Jane to care for their children while he fights for independence.
