Belizaire the Cajun

In 19th-century Louisiana's Cajun country, Belizaire Breaux (Armand Assante), a village healer, is caught up in a violent conflict between Cajuns and the new Anglophone arrivals to Southwest Louisiana. Complicating matters is that his former flame, Alida Thibodaux (Gail Youngs), is now married to Hypolite Leger (Michael Schoeffling), a man who becomes Belizaire's biggest rival. The situation escalates into a web of murder, lies, and prejudice as Belizaire navigates the treacherous landscape of racism.
