The Purple Heart

In April 1942, eight American aircrew captured after a raid on Japan must endure harsh interrogation and torture at the hands of the Imperial Japanese Army before being put on trial at the Shanghai Police Headquarters. The men's unyielding resolve ultimately proves to be the downfall of their captors, as General Mitsubi chooses to shoot himself in the face of his captives' determination. The film chronicles the dehumanizing treatment of American prisoners-of-war and the final injustice of being tried, convicted, and executed as war criminals.
