Don "Red" Barry was an American film and television actor born Milton Poimboeuf in Houston, Texas, with his mother dying of tuberculosis at age 19. He transitioned from advertising to acting, initially appearing on stage before landing the iconic role of Red Ryder in Republic Pictures' serial Adventures of Red Ryder (1940). Barry's career spanned westerns and other films, including The Purple Heart (1944), but was marked by struggles with co-stars and crew members.
