In Roman Polanski's adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel, nine-year-old orphan Oliver Twist embarks on a perilous journey from the workhouse to the streets of London, where he falls in with a gang of juvenile pickpockets led by the cunning Fagin. With his innocence and spirit intact, Oliver is taken under the wing of the kind-hearted Mr. Brownlow, but the forces of poverty and crime ultimately threaten to tear him apart.
