Algol: Tragedy of Power

The film "Algol: Tragedy of Power" (1920) is a German science fiction silent film directed by Hans Werckmeister and starring Emil Jannings as Robert Herne, a man who is given a device that creates enough energy to power the entire world by an alien from the planet Algol. As Herne's influence grows, he loses touch with his former friend Maria Obal (Hanna Ralph) and becomes increasingly corrupted by power. In the end, Herne destroys the machine, preventing his son Reginald (Ernst Hofmann) from seizing control after his death.
