The Last Woman

The Last Woman is a 1976 French-Italian psychological drama that explores the complicated relationship between Gérard (Gérard Depardieu), a young engineer left alone to care for his nine-month-old son after his wife leaves him, and Valérie (Ornella Muti), the daycare worker he becomes infatuated with. As Gabrielle fights for custody of their child, Gérard's romantic longings lead him to an affair with Valérie, which further jeopardizes his chances of keeping his son. In response, Gérard mutilates himself in a dramatic and intense confrontation with his emotions.
