Based on the true story of China's first prima donna of the silver screen, Ruan Lingyu, "Center Stage" chronicles her rise to fame as a movie actress in Shanghai during the 1930s. This biographical drama film follows the life and career of silent film legend Ruan Lingyu, portrayed by Maggie Cheung, who began her acting career at just 16 and tragically took her own life at 24. With its unique blend of present-day interviews, re-creation scenes, and extracts from Ruan's original films, "Center Stage" offers a poignant portrayal of a star whose life was cut short by the societal pressures of her time.
