Beijing Watermelon

Shunzo (Bengal), a popular greengrocer in a town near Tokyo, forms a paternal-like relationship with a group of Chinese exchange students, supporting them through acts of kindness such as giving them discounted or free groceries and helping them find housing. This generosity often comes at the expense of his ability to provide for his own family, causing tension between Shunzo and his wife Michi (Masako Motai). Years later, Shunzo and Michi are invited to Beijing by the now-graduated students, who throw a banquet in their honor, where Michi delivers a heartfelt speech thanking the students for allowing her husband to become more empathetic.
