Major Charles Carrington (David Niven) is arrested for taking £125 from his unit's safe, along with two other charges that could destroy his distinguished service career. In a desperate bid to clear his name, Carrington decides to act in his own defense at his court-martial, arguing that he was owed a significant amount of money by the army due to his various postings that cost him out of pocket.
