Troubled psychotherapist Peter Bower (Adrien Brody) is suffering from nightmares and eerie visions after his daughter's death in a street accident. He uncovers a horrifying secret shared by all his patients when they died on December 7th, 1987, and is put on a course that takes him back to his hometown of False Creek. There, he confronts his demons and unravels a mystery 20 years in the making, as he discovers that Duncan Stewart (Sam Neill), his mentor, may be a ghost, and that Peter's own memories of the accident are unreliable, revealing a dark family secret involving William, Peter's father, who is revealed to be involved in the train derailment that killed 47 people.
