In 1998, Ry Cooder, a friend of director Wim Wenders, returned to Havana to record a new album by Ibrahim Ferrer, marking a reunion of legendary Cuban folk musicians. The film features concert footage from the group's gigs in Amsterdam and New York City's Carnegie Hall, capturing not only their music but also their life stories through interviews with each of the main performers, including Compay Segundo, Eliades Ochoa, Ry Cooder, Joachim Cooder, Ibrahim Ferrer, and others.
