The Apostle

Euliss F. "Sonny" Dewey (Robert Duvall) is a charismatic Pentecostal preacher from Texas whose life unravels after his wife begins an adulterous relationship with a youth minister. After a violent outburst, Sonny flees to Louisiana and starts preaching on the radio under the guise of "The Apostle E.F." With his charisma and energy, he builds a faithful flock in the bayous, but his past eventually catches up with him when his estranged wife recognizes his voice on the radio. In the poignant finale, Sonny delivers an impassioned sermon before being taken away by the law, still preaching to anyone who will listen.
