I Walked with a Zombie

A Canadian nurse, Betsy Connell (Frances Dee), travels to care for the ailing wife of Paul Holland, a sugar plantation owner on a Caribbean island, where she witnesses Vodou rites and possibly encounters the walking dead. The film is based on an article by Inez Wallace and partly reinterprets the narrative of Charlotte Brontë's novel Jane Eyre. Betsy becomes determined to help her patient, Jessica, who was left without the willpower to speak or act after a tropical fever irreparably damaged her spinal cord.
