In 17th century France, King Louis XIV (Jacques Toja) meets Angélique de Plessis-Bellière (Michèle Mercier), his latest widow's half-sister, to persuade the Persian Ambassador to agree to a treaty. However, their mission is complicated by the ambassador's true nature: a sexual sadist. Angélique must be rescued from this evil troll-like character by her half-brother, François Desgrez (Jean Rochefort).
